Random Artists organizes open-access art events in London. Instead of following the standard textbook procedure of achieving exposure for artists who otherwise probably wouldn't get a look in and to overcome the obstacles placed in front of artists and people in general we go about things in our own way.
Gallery space isn't hired or paid for; its reclaimed, squatted, cleaned up and transformed for a week or so. Artists aren't selected - all are welcome to use as much space as they can argue between themselves until it all runs out. We began life at the beginning of 2001 with our first Temporary Autonomous Art exhibition in the old Smithfield's pub in Farringdon. Humble beginnings saw a slow but steady trickle of people coming to see what we were doing.
The now regular open access film night and live night went down well with word having spread by the last day. Since then we've organized three TAA's with each event demonstrating a healthy degree of growth and capabilities. The torrent of people coming through our doors has been pleasant evidence of the excitement it's possible to generate with a few pieces of artwork. (from random artists website)
