RTS

Short Description:

The practice of reclaiming the Streets emerged out of the Claremont Road protests against the demolition of 350 houses in favour of a new expressway of 1993 in London, England. Reclaim the Streets has, since 1995, become a practice in which major streets, intersections, and stretches of highway are occupied suddenly and without warning in order to protest the closing of urban and rural space for the benefit of car drivers. By 1997 RTS protests had spread as far as Sydney, Helsinki, and Tel Aviv, building a community of support amongst cyclists, environmentalists, and anti-poverty activists.
